Stonehenge and Golf–Why?

There’s an intriguing connection between golf and Stonehenge (remember Montana’s beautifulreplica?). A surprising number of regular golf courses are named Stonehenge and some mini golf entrepreneurs feel the attraction as well. The golf course above is in Norfolk, U.K.  and is the only big red Stonehenge we have ever seen. The one below, at Stonehenge Golf Centre, is in Larkhill, Wiltshire.

stonehenge-mini-golThere’s a brilliant one in Thailand, too, the link to which we seem to have mislaid, so we’ll add it when we locate it again. [Click here. We found it!] Stonehenge shouldn’t feel special, though. Minigolf and crazy golf contribute other replicas as well favouring things like the Taj Mahal, the pyramids and the Sphinx.

We’ll give the first one 5 druids and the second the same. But we admit we would go out of our ways to play at either course. Meet you there at solstice!

  1. Scottsman, yo.

Golf = Scotts, Henge=Scotts and druids.

Wow – thanks for using and creditting my photo! It’s a thrill to see it being used. I took that in Hemsby and have several other shots…I’ll try and find them! Love the site – Jo

Thank you for a very good photo!

  4. I have no idea why Stonehenge and Minigolf go together so often. Perhaps it’s because Dolmen are quite tricky hazards to put under/past!

Here’s a Clonehenge-inspired Blog Post about one of our recent Minigolfing Roadtrips – http://hamandeggerfiles.blogspot.com/2011/07/big-minigolf-roadtrip-stonehenge.html

I’ll have a think and a look to see if we’ve played any other Stonehenge-y obstacles on any of the Crazy Golf courses we’ve played to date.

    All the best,

    Richard

Many thanks for the link and we look forward to your reports of further Stonehenge/mini-golf mergers!

  6. Howdy, I’ve just spotted (via twitter) a new Minigolf Game has been release called ‘Wonderputt’ – one of the Holes is a Stonehenge!

Check it out at – http://www.kongregate.com/games/dampgnat/wonderputt

    All the best,

    Richard

  7. The ‘Stonehenge’ on the Wonderputt game is the 15th hole and a Par-6.

Thanks! Is there a way to see it without playing the game? Or could you send me a screenshot? Nice catch!

  9. Hello Nancy,

There is indeed. Just load up the game at http://www.kongregate.com/games/dampgnat/wonderputt and you’ll see the ‘Stonehenge’ on the right hand side of the screen.

The Wonderputt Minigolf Course is one continuous/fluid creation, it’s worth a play too. It’s the best Crazy Golf computer game I’ve ever played.

    Cheers,

    Richard
